The Magic Pill

There is no magic pill that will stop anxiety and panic attacks. Pills will not eliminate your anxiety or panic attacks all by themselves. You have to make changes in your thinking and behaviors and see that change in yourself before you can control anxiety and panic attacks.

Anti-depressants or herbal potions may help you reduce the symptoms you feel. They will reduce the frequency and severity of symptoms, but often they mask the problem. You must be honest at least to yourself and admit what your problem is. Once you can say to your inner voice, this is my problem, how can I change it? You will be feeding your mind to find out how you can eliminate the problem and how you can become the person you want to be.

The Bottom Line

I put every possible thing or idea to the test to see if it helped me. If it didn’t help I did not quit. I just moved on to the next thing. On the days the pain was so bad that I stayed in bed I made up my mind to think about solutions and not dwell on the problems. I always concentrated on the positives. That is how I got to be here today to write this for you. Now there is the power of positive thinking.

Where Did I Get My Ideas?

My ideas are not new. I turned to audio self-help products. Specifically using audio recordings. I listened to Tony Robins (who helped me quite a bit) Dr Wayne Dyer, Depak Chopra, and many others. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like some of the things that these people teach. I took what I needed and used it, leaving the rest behind. I would also reccomend you get some relaxation and hypnosis audios as well.

These audios planted seeds in my mind that I could be successful both at work and in my family life. I wasn’t promised take this pill or read this book or listen to this audio and all of your problems will be gone forever. No, I was given many different ideas, some that even conflicted with another.

On a conscience level a lot of what I was hearing made sense. But the big changes were happening at the subconscious level. By shear repetition of listening to the tapes I liked, I was preparing myself for a way out of my problems. Becoming a different person one day at a time.

I had to endour the comments of my friends and family. I persevered to become happy with myself like I have never felt before. My friends thought I was crazy always listening to my audios. The joke was on them when I discovered myself and a became a better person in the process.

Advice, get as far away from negative people as you can. Don’t listen to them. Don’t let them drag you down with them.

There is a point where you have to believe in yourself more than other people. You must believe that if you apply your mental focus to taking on the challenge that the answer will come to you. If you believe that you can conceive of the solution you will. This is a little play on words from the quote by Napoleon Hill in the famous book “Think and Grow Rich” “What the mind can conceive the mind can believe”. This works for both positive and the negative thoughts. So be carefull what you think about.

Audios

I cannot stress enough how much a part of my healing was due to the audios I listened to. Audios are great; you can listen almost any time of day or night. Today many audios can be downloaded in MP3 format from the Internet. You can burn them to a CD and play them in your car or on your portable CD player with headphones. Or you can upload them to your MP3 player.
I prefer to listen to audios with headphones. I feel like am getting the message from the audio with out any distractions from the surrounding environment.

If you or someone you love is suffering from Anxiety, Fear, Phobias, Anxiety Attacks, Panic Attacks or Depression then you need to get to a doctor and get a diagnosis. If you won’t go to the doctor, get some self help audios and let them begin to help you. This can prime the pump of recovery and set you on a path to a new and fantastic life.

What Was My Problem?

My life was in shambles. I was verbally abusive to family and everyone I came in contact with. I was floundering in a sea of Depression, Anxiety and Panic Attacks. I also suffered from procrastination, and constant mental and physical pain. I had no drive or desire to get up in the morning. I would often sleep all day and rarely go anywhere. The physical pain was real and it was increasing every day but I told no one about it. So people thought I was a miserable arrogant son of a bitch and deserted me.

This is who I was to my wife, stepchildren, and my son. It got so bad my wife through me out. She had enough of me. Why did this all happen? It would be a few years before the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia would explain things for me. It would be a few years to late to save my marriage and relationships with my stepchildren.

One Day I Just Got Up And Prayed For An Answer

I didn’t sit and bitch and moan about my situation. I said to myself what could I do to make the most of life. What can I do to relieve the pain? How can I support myself? How can I be a good father to my son? The answers came to me one at a time.

How Did I Stop The Pain of Panic Attacks?

I turned to Self-Help products. Specifically using audio recordings. I listened to Tony Robins (who helped me quite a bit) Dr Wayne Dyer, Depak Chopra, and many others. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like some of the things that these people teach. I took what I needed and used it, leaving the rest behind.

By shear repetition of listening to the tapes I liked, I was preparing myself for a new way out of my problems. Becoming a different person one day at a time. Brushing off the criticisms of friends and acquaintances alike I persevered to become happy with myself like I have never felt before.

What Did I Do About the Physical Pain?

I finally gave in and accepted prescription pain killers and used them sparingly. I also found that hot showers and baths relieved the pain. I also used topical creams that I applied directly to the parts of my body that hurt. I also accepted that I had to have faith that I would overcome all of my problems and be a great father and role model for my son.

You Can’t Have It All At Once

At the same time that I was listening to my Self-Help audios, I was seeing a therapist. We just talked about my problems and he made suggestions as how to deal with them. One thing I learned very early is that you cannot break habits that took years or tens of years to make in a day or a month.

A New Lifestyle

This would become a new lifestyle, a fresh start. I was now unafraid to explore parts of my beliefs and value systems. I also learned how to manage my temper and become more balanced. I used to fly off into a rage or rant at the slightest thing that did not go my way. From start to today I have spent the last seven years of my life exorcizing my demons. Not all of them were successful the first time. So don’t be afraid to try again or try something different if you don’t succeed on your first try.

Stirring up Mud (Part 1)

Concentration calms the mind, but concentration alone will not grant the freedom we are looking for. Concentration is crucial in establishing the next step, however. Something needs to stir up the calm mind that we have developed, similar to stirring up mud on the bottom of a pond so that we don’t become confused and believe that the mud is no longer there.

This unique type of investigation, called mindfulness, is most effectively accomplished immediately after coming out of “fixed concentration,” which is that full, bright calm that is experienced when our meditation object disappears and after the visions and voices of “threshold concentration” cease. It’s exactly when we come out of this fixed concentration that the mind is sharpest and can penetrate most easily from a metaphysical perspective into whatever is being investigated. This is called discernment, which leads to wisdom; or seeing reality rather than images.

These investigations into the body and mind will deepen as our meditation becomes an ongoing process, that is, continuously all day long, This mindfulness is the second step leading to final insight, and is only successful when accompanied by an extremely concentrated mind, which is what we have been working on. Remember; it is necessary to integrate into our lives whatever wisdom we discover. A good way to accomplish this is to take one step forward and then a half-step backward so that we are certain of our progress. We must be mindful of everything in this manner, and whatever wisdom does result, be careful that we don’t cling to it, always allowing ourselves to go on.

Bodies and minds are disposable, like disposable napkins—use them once and out they go! So why become enamored with them? Awareness only uses them as a ship we must temporarily sail to gain wisdom and understanding. I’m afraid that this mindfulness will involve looking at things we normally abhor—our personal death and the insides of our bodies, the distasteful parts. It can be extremely difficult to look at ourselves in this manner because we identify so closely with our bodies. We can barely stand the sight of blood, hate funerals, and fall apart at the scene of an accidents! Our body seems to be everything we have, so it’s threatening to observe it too closely. It’s frightening to look at any of our delusions as well, but until we see through them, how can we be free to go on? The sooner we get past this idea that this body is us, the better. Thoughts are not us, the body is not us; so what are we?

Here is a very interesting article from Stephen Pierce that
shows the growing power and interest in brain entrainment.

Zapping sleepers’ brains boosts memory 05 November 2006
NewScientist.com news service

Roxanne Khamsi

Applying a gentle electric current to the brainduring sleep
can significantly boost memory,researchers report.

A small new study showed that half an hour of this brain
stimulation improved students’ performance at a verbal
memory task by about 8%. The approach enhances memory by
creating a form of electrical current in the brain seen in
deep sleep, the researchers suggest.

Jan Born at the University of Luebeck in Germany, and
colleagues, recruited 13 healthy medical students for the
study and gave them a list of word associations, such as
“bird” and “air”, to learn late in the evening. Afterwards,
researchers placed two electrodes on the forehead and one
behind each ear of the volunteers and let them sleep.

The students’ various sleep stages were monitored using an
electroencephalogram (EEG) machine. When the students entered
a period of light sleep, Born’s team started to apply a
gentle current in one-second-long pulses, every second, for
about 30 minutes.

The EEG readings revealed that this current had put students
into a deeper state of sleep.

The next morning, the students performed about 8% better on
the word memory test than when they underwent the same type
of memory experiment without brain stimulation.

Nerve firing

Born believes this memory boost was due to the pattern of the
applied current mimicking that seen in naturally occurring
deep sleep, where memory consolidation is thought to take
place.

Strong brain currents in this stage of sleep probably cause
more intense nerve firing, he says, which might enhance
activity in the brain’s memory centre, the hippocampus.

Some researchers are skeptical of Born’s “mimicking deep
sleep” theory, however. Felipe Fregni at the Harvard Center
for Non-invasive Brain Stimulation in Boston, US, says that
he and other scientists have shown that brain stimulation
with non-sleep-type currents can produce similar memory
enhancements.

Potential side effects

There is growing evidence that brain stimulation might one
day help improve memory in patients with dementia or other
forms of cognitive impairment, experts say.

“It could be very useful to restore function in people with
brain injury,” says Daniel Herrera at Weill Medical College
of Cornell University in New York, US, who has studied the
effects of brain stimulation in rats.

Healthy people might eventually try using this approach to
maximize their brainpower, Herrera says: “I think every
single medical student in the country might want to plug
into this type of device at home or in the dorm.”

But he stresses that applying electrical currents to the
brain might have unwanted side effects.

Born also says he would be “a little hesitant” to regularly
use brain stimulation during sleep to boost memory: “In the
end we don’t know if there are adverse side effects that we
just don’t recognize at the moment.”
